$5 million bond approved for Public Water District 10 to repair waterlines

Broken water mains have forced many residents in Public Water District 10 to have to boil their water on occasion over the last few years.

District 10 includes parts of Boone, Audrain and Randolph counties.

“The boil advisories, I would say, 90 to 95 percent of them…you know last year was really wet and this year is really dry,” Public Water District 10 Manager Sherry Creel told ABC 17 News. “The ground is shifting, lines breaking, and that’s the reason that has been an issue.”

Voters approved a $5 million bond Tuesday allowing the district’s board to start making upgrades that should fix the problem.

Creel said the engineers know the problems that need addressing and they are ready to move forward.

“Each one of the projects that we had were listed and evaluated by our engineers on what needed to be done and then they were priced on a ballpark figure,” Creel said.

Creel told ABC 17 News the main projects include connecting existing waterlines and extending larger lines west, northwest, southwest and southeast to improve water flow.

But Creel said it won’t be a fast process.

“It will probably be over 18 months before we get started because we have to get everything in order, and then it could take a year or two to complete,” she said.

Although the improvements come with a big price tag, Creel said it’s a very important issue that needs to be addressed to give residents a clean water supply.
