Ad campaigns begin in support of House Bill 253

Governor Jay Nixon’s veto of House Bill 253 caused great controversy this week.

“Now is not the time to divert that into a risky scheme that includes dramatically cutting public education and taxing seniors and students more,” said Nixon.

The bill would be the first income state tax reduction in nearly 100 years.

Legislators across the state are fighting back with ad campaigns that began airing this week, in hopes that the veto will be overturned in September.

Rex Sinquefield, a Missouri political activist, is the main contributor for the Missouri Club for Growth’s ad campaign titled, “Enough.”

Sinquefield donated $750,000. That is on top of the more than $660,000 the Club for Growth raised the first half of this year. The group will spend $37,000 just for TV ads in mid-Missouri.

After speaking with the Club for Growth organization, they say the reason for spending such a large amount of money on these ads is because they have fought so hard for this bill.

They aren’t the only ones fighting for it.

The Missouri Chamber of Commerce and the Associated Industries of Missouri also have their own ad campaigns under this umbrella organization of Grow Missouri.
