Columbia police capture second shooting suspect

Police have captured the second suspect involved in a shootout in north central Columbia on Wednesday while the case moves forward against the first suspect already in custody.

Friday night, police announced they had arrested Moises Guillen at The Links apartment complex in east Columbia.

Guillen was arrested on charges of armed criminal action, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon. He is being held on a $300,000 cash-only bond.

Coty Galbreath was arrested on Thursday and was charged on Friday. He’s charged with unlawful use and possession of a weapon, and armed criminal action.

Police found almost 30 shell casings at the scene. They believe Galbreath shot toward a group that was shooting back at him. Investigators say Guillen, 22, was part of that group.

According to court documents, Galbreath and Guillen were shooting at each other for some unknown reason. It states Guillen was one of five Hispanic men in a car shooting at Galbreath.

Investigators say they are getting witness cooperation in this case. They tell us when there is only physical evidence, they have to wait on results to get back from the labs. That could take some time. When witnesses talk to cops, it allows them to get on top of the investigation and potentially solve it faster.

Nobody we talked with in the neighborhood where the shots rang out knew Galbreath or Guillen, nor had they heard of them before.

According to the court documents, police could be searching for at least four people who have knowledge of what and why the shootout happened.
