Two arrested in fatal shooting on Conley Road
Columbia police have arrested two people in connection to a deadly shopping center shooting late Sunday night.
26-year-old Samuel Butler of Columbia and 22-year-old Joycelynn Brown of Jefferson City were picked up late Monday.
For the murder charge Butler’s bail has been set at $1 million cash only, he has no bond for a parole violation. Brown’s bail has been set at $500,000 cash only.
The pair is accused of a drug deal gone wrong that ended with one man dying in a parking lot.
Police are still searching for at least two people in connection with the shooting, including the shooter.
Authorities were notified around 11 p.m. Sunday of shots fired and that a passerby found the man in a white Pontiac Bonneville in the Broadway Marketplace shopping center on Conley Road.
Officers found Anthony M. Unger, 25, of Jefferson City next to the car and took him to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Officers at the scene told ABC 17 News more than two shots were fired. A crew there reported seeing multiple evidence markers going outward from the Bonneville’s open passenger door.
Investigators say the shooting is not random. Narcotics were found at the scene, so police are saying the shooting is drug-related.
Detectives were at the scene as of midnight, but say there is no suspect description available at this time.
This is the fourth shooting in Columbia in less than ten days, none of which have been solved.
The violence started on June 14 with a shooting outside of busy bars at the corner of Tenth Street and Broadway. Three people were shot.
Then June 21, a report of shooting at Lakewood Apartments off Old Highway 63. No victim or suspect has been found yet.
And on Sunday, June 23, a 19-year-old was shot in the leg during a party on Bodie Drive.
