Flag Spring Baptist Church rebuilding after fire

Volunteers are rebuilding the Flag Spring Baptist Church after a fire destroyed the building last Thanksgiving.

More than 75 volunteers worked on the skeleton of the new church Tuesday.

The church’s pastor says while it’s disappointing it’s not their old building, they’re focused on creating a new home.

“I got a phone call about 5 a.m. [last Thanksgiving] from a church member that said, ‘Preacher, our church is on fire and burning to the ground,'” Ken Chapman recalled of the destructive fire.

Six months after the fire, the building is being reconstructed piece-by-piece by volunteers.

On Tuesday, volunteers and church members grabbed their hammers to continue construction on the new building. The volunteers say it will only take a couple more days to finish the church.

The estimated total cost for construction is $175,000.
