Rocheport flooding threatens tourism

Following last week’s torrential rain, parts of Rocheport — a town known for its bed and breakfasts — is now flooding.

In 1992, the town made headlines after historic flooding and many of the businesses had to close.

Now, the town is flooding again, but residents say that it is nothing compared to the flood 20 years ago.

They are worried, however, that people will hear of the flooding and not come visit. For this tourism town, that is a big concern.

“All the shops and everything are still open,” said resident Jessica Long. “You can still get to Rocheport very easily, so I hope you still come out.”

According to the American Red Cross, one McBaine family in Boone County has been displaced by flooding.
