Jefferson City golf course owner is closed for business due to high flooding
Flood waters are sitting at the top of levies in Jefferson City.
Parking lots and neighborhoods have flooded, and the airport was under voluntary evacuation.
Danny Baumgartner runs the Turkey Creek Golf Center off of Highway 63.
He tole ABC 17 News he is forced to take a boat to and from his property because flooding has left his golf course beneath nearly three feet of water.
And Baumgartner said he is blaming the city for the problem.
He said the city built levees to protect the sports fields and the parks, but the levees caused the water to back up on to his property instead.
“Somebody built some levees and blocked up the drainage pipe so the water can’t get out and dumped all the water on me,” Baumgartner told ABC 17 News.
He said he is taking legal action because his golf course cannot operate for business and will remain closed until the water is gone.
He also said that this is the beginning of the busiest time of year and without business, he has no income.
“I’m closed up. My junior golf starts tomorrow. I can’t have that. This is our busiest time of year. If we don’t make it now, we can’t make it through the rest of the year,” Baumgartner said.
He told ABC 17 News he will remain positive, but wants someone to accept responsibility and to fix the problem.
City offices were closed Sunday, but ABC 17 News will check in with the city Monday to see what the city has to say and how the problem will be resolved.
