Columbia police crackdown on seat belt violations

In 2012, three of the five deadly crashes in Columbia involved someone thrown from a vehicle.

It was also the first time traffic crash deaths increased statewide.

On Sunday, Columbia police announced a crackdown on seat belt use that will last until the start of next month.

It is all part of the statewide Click It Or Ticket campaign and it means officers will be working overtime, looking for seat belt violations.

The money for the overtime comes from a state grant.
