New Bloomfield soldier dies in Kuwait
Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered all U.S. and Missouri flags to be flown at half-staff Saturday to honor a New Bloomfield soldier who died while serving in Kuwait.
According to the Department of Defense, 21-year-old Spc. Charles P. McClure died on May 2 due to injuries sustained in a vehicle accident.
McClure was assigned to the 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division, out of Fort Carson, Colo.
His body arrived at Fort Leonard Wood on Friday and a visitation was held at the Waynesville Memorial Chapel.
“Specialist McClure served our country with bravery and dedication, and I ask all Missourians to remember his sacrifice when they see the lowered flags,” Gov. Nixon said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with his family as they mourn for him.”
Funeral services will be held Saturday at 10 a.m. in the Memorial Chapels and Crematory of Waynesville/St. Robert. Burial with military honors will follow in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Fort Leonard Wood.
