Shooting suspect in custody after police chase
A man wanted by law enforcement is in custody Wednesday evening after leading officers on a chase then crashing into another car.
Boone County Sheriff’s deputies attempted to pull over a black SUV on Highway WW for a traffic violation. The driver, Rashard Bigham, led deputies on a short chase into the El Chaparral neighborhood.
Bigham crashed into a red pickup, causing the pickup to roll over onto its side. The driver of the truck was not injured.
Residents told ABC 17 News a deputy and several neighbors were able to catch Bigham as he fled the scene.
During a search of the car, deputies found a stolen gun.
Bigham has multiple warrants out for his arrest, including first-degree assault and armed criminal action. Columbia police say he is a suspect in a shooting in east Columbia in November.
Officers think he shot a 17-year-old in the chest on Sugar Tree Lane and is connected to a separate shooting on Blue Ridge Road the same day.
Bigham was arrested on several charges Wednesday, including first-degree assault, felony resisting arrest, felon in possession of a firearm, receiving stolen property, felony property damage and possession of a controlled substance.
He is in the Boone County Jail as of Wednesday night. Bond for his charges total over $400,000.
