Postal service workers protest distribution center closure

Mid-Missouri postal service workers gathered outside the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia Monday to protest the closure of Columbia’s Mail Distribution Center.

USPS plans to hold a public meeting at Holiday Inn Tuesday, to explain the plan.

Approximately one third of local workers could be displaced as mid-Missouri’s mail would run through St. Louis or Kansas City facilities.

The move could save more than $4 million, but a local workers’ union isn’t buying it.

Protesters say the proposed cuts are just the beginning.
