Buses, City Services Canceled

The University of Missouri decided to call off school around noon on Thursday, but that was too late for a lot of people.ABC 17 News talked to a lot of students who were stranded on campus. They said university buses stopped running an hour before MU canceled classes.A spokesperson for the college was not aware of the decision. They said the student center will stay open around the clock for anybody who could not get home. It is the first time in two years the university has closed down.City buses in Columbia dropped off their last passenger at 6:30 p.m. Thursday. Jefferson City buses also stopped running earlier in the afternoon.People who did not get their trash picked up in Columbia or Jefferson City could see trucks either tomorrow or Saturday.Sessions in both the Missouri House and Senate were also shutdown, because so many people live in different parts of the state.Flights at Columbia Regional Airport are canceled for Friday. Only one American Airlines flight to Dallas made it out 6:45 a.m. Thursday.Every plane in Kansas City was grounded Thursday night. Crews are trying to reopen the airport by 7 a.m. Friday. Over 400 flights were canceled in both Kansas City and St. Louis, according to FlightAware. Nationwide, about 800 planes in the U.S. were grounded Thursday.
