Plows Will Work Until Sunday
***UPDATE 7:00 P.M.***Columbia city snow plows hit residential neighborhoods around 1 p.m. Friday, working from the center of the city outward.Public Works spokesman Steve Sapp told ABC 17 News crews were working 12 hours on, 12 hours off until every street had been plowed. He estimated that would be done Sunday night.Friday night, many residential streets hadn’t been touched yet. Danny Huynh lives on Shale Oaks Avenue in west Columbia and spent Friday digging out his driveway so that he could park his car. He said he left it abandoned on Gillespie Bridge Road overnight because he couldn’t get into his neighborhood.***ORIGINAL STORY***Neighborhoods in Columbia will not see snow plows until late Friday afternoon.Plows are having trouble clearing streets, because people are abandoning their cars on the road. Some or all of the lanes were shut down at some point on I-70 between Highway 63 and the Lake of the Woods exit between noon and 8 p.m. Thursday. Crews in Boone County handled at least 13 injury accidents near Columbia.The city confirmed 26 people were working the roads Thursday. Crews were replaced by another round of employees at 7 p.m. Workers are concentrating on top priority streets like Broadway, Paris and Old Highway 63. After that, they will hit smaller routes like University and Rangeline. MoDot is in charge of state roads like I-70, Highway 63, Stadium and Providence. They hired about an extra dozen contractors in Boone County, in addition to more than 200 trucks spread across Mid-Missouri.
