Winter Weather Damages Roads

Highway officials say anytime you have bad weather, it could cause potholes and damage the road surfaces. Following two winter snow storms, priority and side streets are cleared, but people are reporting more potholes all around Mid-Missouri. Potholes are everywhere from roads in the University of Missouri’s East Campus to Highway 63 and officials say it may take awhile for crews to fix them. It takes very dry and warm conditions before companies can get out on the streets to refill the missing asphalt.Road crews are advising drivers to avoid potholes since they can possibly damage your vehicle. If you do come across a pothole, it’s best to not swerve into another lane, as that can cause major issues as well. Highway officials encourage everyone to scan ahead of their car for potholes. If you do have problems on the roadway, move the vehicle as quickly as possible by contacting a tow truck or Highway Patrol.
