Put A Bowe On It
The Kansas City Chiefs will have even more options with the 1st overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, because they now have fewer holes to fill. On Monday, the Chiefs signed free-agent-to-be WR Dwayne Bowe to a five-year contract. Bowe has led the Chiefs in receiving in each of the last three seasons. The 28-year old receiver finished last year on the injured reserve list after suffering a rib injury. In his six-year NFL career — all with Kansas City — Bowe has caught 39 touchdown passes. He wasn’t, however, the only player to get a 5-year contract Monday. Punter Dustin Colquitt — one of five Chief Pro Bowlers in 2012 — signed a $18.75 million deal that makes him the highest paid punter in the NFL. With those two inked to long-term deals, GM John Dorsey decided to place the franchise tag on T Branden Albert. Albert is seeking a long-term deal similar to the kind Bowe and Colquitt received, but the franchise tag means he’ll get a one-year deal that will pay him $9.83 million in 2013. Albert, a first round selection in 2008, has played in 73 games with Kansas City, 71 of those being starts.
