The transportation security administration lessening some security measures at all airports. Small knives are now allowed on airplanes and some passengers now worry their safety is at risk.On 9/11, terrorists used small weapons like box cutters to take over planes. Starting in april certain items will be on thr approved list including small pocket knives.Knives with a blade longer than 2.36 inches and that locks would not be allowed.Anyone who flys knows the frustration of the security line. But now, not everyone agrees about what passengers can carry on. “I don’t think theres anything wrong with having pocket knives or other items,” said cindy morris who’s daughter was flying out of columbia regional airport on wednesday. Robert restaino was also flying out of columbia’s airport, but he had a different opinion. He said, “I don’t necessarily think its a good idea …Its a little unnerving i think.”Along with small knives, sports gear like hockey sticks, golf clubs, and skies can be carried on. “these are obviously all things that could be used as a potential weapon or harmful object,” said restaino.Harmful or not, tsa officials said skipping a scan for these objects would allow security to better hone in on higher threats. “Looking at tiny little objects that are not going to hijack and airplane isGoing to slow things down,” said jeff price who is a professor at metropolitan state university of denver. However, flight crews argue safety is worth any wait. “We’re there to protect passengers each and every day and it doesn’t make any sense to allow knives aboard aircraft,” said veda shook who is the president of the association of flight attendants.Travelers abc 17 news spoke with wednesday said it should be up to the flight crews, no matter what passengers think. “to me those people that work the airlines, their concern should be acknowledged their fears should be recognized,” morris. These changes will not go into affect until april 25th.
