CDC Warns of New Virus

The government is warning doctors about a new mysterious virus called the corona virus. It is in the same family as the common cold but is also related to the SARS epidemic that swept the nation 10 years ago.It is similar to the common cold but can be fatal, and the symptoms are similar to ones that hit a group of coroners at a convention in Jefferson City last week.The CDC says the virus causes mild to moderate upper-respiratory tract illnesses; meaning the middle of your chest and above.Health officials say most people catch the virus. Coughing, sneezing and coming in contact with other people and contaminated objects can spread the virus. How the virus actually spreads has yet to be studied further. Symptoms are a runny nose, coughing, sore throat and a fever – in some cases pneumonia. Now there is no specific treatments, but people recover from it on their own. These symptoms match descriptions from coroners who two weeks ago became violently ill at the Truman Hotel.One coroner says he experienced a cough, fever, aches and flu like symptoms – still a week later he has a cough. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior services is still investigating the cause. Former President of the Coroners Association shared a letter sent out to explain the investigation. “One conference attendee was confirmed to have influenza type A and another had positive rapid type influenza test. Although influenza has been reported the investigation is on going to identify the possible causes or sources of this illness,” the letter read.Many of the sick coroners left the hospital and are feeling better, but former president Roger Mauzy tells me he still wants more information. “It’s not the fact we don’t know what it isn’t, it’s we don’t know what it is and that’s what is kinda keeping people on the edge of their seats.” Mauzy says.
