3/22: Weekend Winter Storm
***UPDATED SATURDAY 5 A.M.***Winter Storm Warnings and Watches have been issued for most of Mid-Missouri from Saturday night through Sunday evening. We are watching the development of a storm system that will bring snow to Mid-Missouri Saturday night and Sunday. A strong low pressure area is forecast to track from the Texas panhandle to near northern Tennessee from Saturday night through Sunday. Cold air will already be in place in the Central U.S. while deep Gulf moisture will move in from the south as the storm system moves through, resulting in moderate snow amounts.Rain is expected to develop by late Saturday afternoon along and south of I-70 from west to east while areas to the north of I-70 could see a rain/snow mix. Temperatures will be in the mid 40s Saturday afternoon, dropping to near 30 overnight. Rain will turn to snow through Saturday night with all of Mid-Missouri in the snow by early Sunday morning, between 2 a.m. and 8 a.m. Pockets of moderate snow are possible through early Sunday before it tapers off to light snow showers in the late afternoon and evening with temperatures reaching the mid 30s.There is the potential for widespread 4-8 inches of snow to accumulate in Mid-Missouri with the higher amounts north of HWY 50 where it will change over quicker from rain to snow Saturday night. However, how quickly the rain changes to snow would affect snow amounts. Also, there is the possibility of thundersnow with this system. Areas that have thundershow will have locally higher amounts. Please check back for updated forecasts.
