CPS Seeks Overcrowding Solutions

Columbia Public Schools will hear feedback from parents Monday night on plans to tackle a growing overcrowding problem at Mill Creek Elementary.District leaders tell ABC 17 News the school was built to hold 600 students, but is currently home to more than 850.Options on the table for the short-term include re-drawing elementary school boundaries or combining all fifth graders into Gentry Middle School.The district said Monday it has plans for two new elementary schools – one near the new Battle High School to open in 2015 and another to open in 2016 south of town.ABC 17 News will be at tonight’s meeting and will update this story.
