New Sidewalk Opens in Jeff City
Jefferson City officials unveiled new sidewalks Wednesday on Missouri Boulevard, one of the city’s busiest roads. The new sidewalks will make it safer for residents waiting for buses and those walking along the road.Local business owners say they are glad the construction is over, but it was worth the wait.”I think it’s going to help business here but also going to bring in business throughout all of Missouri Boulevard,” said Tosh Wilkinson of Heads Up Salon.City leaders are hoping for the same effect, especially after the city spent more than $150,000 on the five-month project.Jefferson City police say no major accident prompted the need for the sidewalk, rather just common sense to get people out of the road for safety purposes.Construction on the second phase of the sidewalk project will likely start next summer. The city is also planning to add sidewalks to one side of Ellis Boulevard this year as part of an effort to build sidewalks along on all major roads.
