Firefighters Battle House Fire

*** UPDATE SUNDAY 10:26 P.M. ***The man in the hospital is 82 year old Charles Gillum. He originally suffered life-threatening injuries but as of Sunday he was upgrade to fair condition.*** UPDATE SATURDAY 6:30 P.M.***A Columbic man remains in critical condition Saturday afternoon in the University of Missouri Hospital. ***UPDATE SATURDAY 10 A.M.***Columbia fire crews say they found the male victim in a second bedroom inside the home. Firefighters say the home was full of smoke with a fire in another bedroom.The male was transported to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other resident, a female, was taken to University Hospital by police officers.Firefighters were able to control the fire in less than five minutesThe fire marshal determined the fire began in the bedroom where the fire was contained. Officials believe an electrical malfunction started the fire. Preliminary estimates for damage are around $60,000. ***ORIGINAL STORY***Firefighters are battling a blaze in northwest Columbia on Parklawn Court. Two people were in the home, one of whom made it out safely, the other victim was sent to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries. Firefighters do not yet know how the fire started.
