10/29: Hurricane Sandy

Hurricane Sandy will likely make landfall near New Jersey Monday night. The storm will pack wind gusts near 100 mph, rainfall in excess of 10 inches and a storm surge of up to 11 feet in some areas along the East Coast. Additionally, the arctic air mass that moved through Mid-Missouri Friday afternoon will combine with moisture from the hurricane to cause blizzard-like conditions in the mountains of West Virginia and western Pennsylvania. Several feet of snow may fall in some spots.Clouds on the western edge of the storm will extend as far west as Illinois with gusty winds possible even in the Great Lakes states. Our weather pattern in Mid-Missouri will remain stalled until the storm moves eastward, which isn’t likely until late in the week. Until then, expect cool days and chilly nights with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s.
