Prepare for Election Day
***UPDATE 11:15 P.M.***Voting polls will open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. across Missouri. As voters finalize their decisions, officials finish up getting ready.The heated races are expected to bring thousands to the polls in Boone County. Workers will show up to polling places at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday.State officials expect a 72 percent voter turnout, so that means early on there could be some long lines at the polls.The process of moving ballots, computers, and supplies across the county is over, on Tuesday it will all be about the voters getting to the polls.When ABC 17 News asked Boone County Clerk Wendy Noren what they are expecting for voter turnout? Noren said “Well it’s not going to be as high; probably I am not expecting as much as 2008 although it could always surprise me.”Noren thinks in Boone County, 75,000 to 85,000 people will show up, but with fewer places to vote than in 2008, that could mean a longer wait for voters, therefore it’s important you know where you’re going.”The biggest thing that causes lines is voters that waited until Election Day to change their address, they hold up the whole process and unfortunately we will have thousands of those,” said Noren.One thing that will actually cut down on long lines are the electronic checking in, it used to take six to eight minutes to check in, now it’s cut down to around one.”While we have fewer polls, the check-in is five to six times as fast, so we will just have to wait and see what happens with lines,” Noren said. Officials say voters can either bring: – A Voter ID card- Driver’s License – Missouri or other states- Identification card issued by a state agency (e.g., University employee ID, state employee ID, WIC card, non-drivers ID issued by Dept of Revenue, birth certificate)- Identification card issued by an institution of higher education, including a university, college, vocational and technical school, located within the state of Missouri- Passport, Social Security Card, Medicaid or Medicare card or Identification issued by the federal government- A copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that contains your name and address***ORIGINAL STORY***ABC 17 News has compiled a list of resources to help you finalize last-minute preparations for election day.
