Boone Co. Home Destroyed in Fire

***UPDATE 8:59 P.M.***Firefighters have cleared the scene of the fire on Smith Hatchery Road. Crews say the fire is extinguished. ***ORIGINAL STORY***A house south of Columbia was destroyed in a fire Monday afternoon.The blaze was first reported around 4:15 p.m. off Smith Hatchery Road, less than two miles from Cooper’s Landing on the Missouri River.Crews said when they arrived on scene, more than half the structure was already in flames. But the house is abandoned, so no one was inside when it happened.Firefighters battled the blaze from the outside, and expected the flames to last for several hours.
