Teen’s Wish to Help Family

The Columbia community came together to answer a young teenager’s wish.Jodie Bappe, 15, who goes to West Jr. High, created a website to collect donations to help pay for her parents’ hospital bills.A nurse at Boone Hospital gathered about 60 people to light candles and carol outside of the Bappe’s home in freezing temperatures Thursday night. “It’s just a miracle,” said Jodie, “I don’t deserve this. People have been so nice, it’s just touched my heart, it’s really awesome.” Both of Bappe’s parents are battling life-threatening illness, according to the teenager. Jodie wrote that she almost lost her mother a year ago due to a severe lung disease, her mother was in a coma. And this summer, her father was diagnosed with stage four cancer, the most advanced stage.
