Bank ‘Cyber-attack’ Concerns

PNC Financial said Thursday they are fighting back on their cyber security– after experiencing high volume of traffic on their website this week that is interrupting online banking for customers. Some customers have sounded off on the bank’s Facebook page, saying that this is “unacceptable,” and others said they “can’t do anything.” Security experts say this could be a prime time for hackers, who may take advantage of customers who try to log on to their accounts repeatedly. The risk lies in getting redirected to fraudulent websites that mimic legitimate websites. This can happen when the URL address is not typed in correctly or clicking on search results for the bank. The first one is not always the right one. Experts say you’d have to look very closely at URL addresses to make sure they are consistent with where you are intending to go to, before entering your password and giving up sensitive information. When in doubt, officials said to call the banking institution if you feel an online app for smart phones or website is questionable, or visit a local branch to complete your transactions.
