Record Turnout at Gun Show

The Boone County Gun Show saw a record turnout with around 1,000 people at the Boone County Fairgrounds on Friday.”We’ve seen record numbers for the last two weeks,” gun show manager Dennis Pearson said, “Everything is up 40-60% and vendors are telling me they’re seeing a 120% increase in sales.”Pearson attributes the jump in sales to a potential ban on assault rifles as well as the recent shootings nationwide. Vendors at the show worry about a potential ban saying it will not stop the violence.”Connecticut had an assault weapons ban in place when the tragedy took place,” Vendor Pete Jones said, “People say an assault weapons ban will help prevent columbine style killings. But in fact, Columbine happened during Clinton’s assault weapons ban. It does nothing to prevent fire arms related crimes.”Many buyers at the show said they are trying to buy assault rifles before any potential ban goes into effect. “You see and read about a lot of things that happen out there that you don’t have control over. If you do have a fire arm, you feel like you have some control of the situation,” buyer Jim Houston said.
