Two Shootings Sunday Morning
Only 24 hours after a man is shot while driving on Highway 63, and less than a day after scattered shootings plagued Jefferson City, bullets fly yet again in Mid-Missouri.Police are investigating two shootings that happened in Columbia early Sunday morning.Witnesses first heard shots at Rangeline Street and Lakeview Avenue around 1:45 A.M. less than minute later bullets went flying off the Business Loop on Pannell Street. Witnesses told police they saw a man shooting at two SUV’s as they drove past on the Business Loop.Currently officers are trying to figure out more about the crimes, but do know these two shootings are linked. “I wouldn’t have imagined something like that would happen around here, but its also kind of scary I guess that something happened so close to where I live,” said Carina Collins who lives on Pannell Street. Those who live in the neighborhood said it’s small, secluded, and typically quiet. However, now the word danger comes to mind after shots shattered the silence of the night.”I am very surprised, I thought this was a pretty safe neighborhood and its startling to find out its more dangerous than I anticipated,” said Shannon More, who also lives on Pannell Street. Officers said multiple rounds were shot and they found shell casings at both locations. Police think the two shootings are related because of how close in timing they are and how close in proximity they are. While the commotion only spread for about a block, police could only get a vague suspect description. Officers said they’re looking for a black man wearing some sort of a jacket. At this point investigators don’t know if these shootings are connected to the drive by Saturday on Highway 63, but they are looking into it.
