Officers reiterated the investigation is on-going.***UPDATE SATURDAY 11:25 A.M.***Jefferson City police tell ABC 17 News the man has died from his injuries. There were no other updates in the case at that time.***ORIGINAL STORY***A Mid-Missouri man suffers head and neck injuries after falling 30 feet and police still don’t know how it happened. The incident occurred in the 300 block of Monroe Street downtown Jefferson City early Tuesday morning. Emergency crews had to go through a nearby business to help the man because there’s no public access to the area where he fell. ABC 17 News found out a gate leading to the roof is blocked off to the public, but is easily opened. That’s the staircase police used these to get to the roof in order to find the injured man. They say they don’t know how he ended up on the roof or how he fell. Officer report there were no witnesses and no one heard anything until after the man had already fallen. That’s when calls came in about someone causing a disturbance, police say that’s probably when witnesses heard the man cry out for help.Even when officers arrived, Captain Doug Shoemaker says responders reported hearing the man cry out for help but couldn’t immediately find him. Now they’re continuing to investigate all possibilities. “It’s strange for somebody to be up on the roof at that time of the morning, I guess, and then to fall 30 feet, you just have to try to rule everything out,” Shoemaker said. “Anything is possible. We’re literally keeping every option open at this time. we’ve been asked every type of scenario as to what could’ve happened, and we just don’t know.”The man was life-flighted to Columbia for his injuries. Captain Shoemaker says the man hasn’t been able to help officers in the investigation.
