Man Breaks into Family’s Home

A man is on the loose after breaking into a Jefferson City home and trying to rob a family. And after pointing a gun at a teenaged girl, police say he may have had the wrong place.Around nine o’clock last night cops were called to the 3800 block of Candlelight Drive for an attempted robbery. They say the suspect pushed his way through the door, threatened a girl, then demanded a backpack. The teen and her mother screamed, scaring the robber away. Jefferson City Police Captain Doug Shoemaker says when officers investigated, they didn’t find anything out of the ordinary in the backpack, and the victims have been cooperative.Police searched for the suspect in a wooded area near the home, but turned up nothing.Officers say no evidence was left behind and this isn’t typically an area where they’d get a call about this type of incident. Captain Shoemaker says it’s not a high crime neighborhood, so this attempted robbery “This is a very open ended issue where it’s very random, it’s a little odd,” Capt. Shoemaker said. “we have not been able to find any information about who this person might be or what they were really after, and so on and so forth.Cso really there’s no idea as to the motive or if there was some kind of intended target, or who knows.”One neighbor who’s lived in the area for nine years tells ABC 17 News its always been pretty quiet. She says in the past 6-7 months, she and neighbors are noticing a spike in a crime. The neighbor further says after having her car broken into she asked police to patrol the area more but they haven’t. Now she’s hoping things will change.
