Gov. Nixon Takes Oath of Office

Jay Nixon began his second and final term as Missouri’s Governor in Monday’s inauguration ceremony. Nixon’s address on the South Steps of the Capitol, echoed tones of working together that he pushed for in 2009. “Cooperation wasn’t considered a sign of weakness, but rather a prerequisite for progress,” Nixon said, “and progress is not partisan.” Though he gave no policy goals in his speech, he touched on education, jobs, and healthcare as key issues he will work toward in his second term. That has some rumors flying that Nixon may be already planning a nationwide run of some kind when this current term ends. He will face some tough challenges first, though. Bob Priddy has covered a dozen inaugurations for MissouriNet. He says, “it’s just a matter of getting down and doing the work. The celebration is over after today. Now the work begins, and that’s where we really see what’s going to happen.”
