Man Arrested for Gun Disturbance
Columbia police arrested a man Wednesday night for a gun disturbance.Officers responded to the 2900 block of Argyle Drive around 8;20 p.m. for a disturbance with a handgun. Victims told police that 39-year-old Quincy Avant was driving recklessly in the street and trying to pick up his girlfriend and child.The victims say Avant became angry and then held a handgun to the side of one of the victims. After the victims ran into the residence, Avant allegedly pointed the gun through the door at the head of a second victim.Avant then fled the scene and officers found him at a room at the Red Roof Inn near Vandiver Drive. As officers approached, Avant left the room, jumped off the second floor balcony and started running toward I-70. He was later captured near the I-70 and Providence Road overpass. Police discovered a handgun in the room.Police arrested Avant on two counts of armed criminal action, two counts of unlawful use of a weapon, two counts of third degree assault, and one count of resisting arrest. His bond was set at $14,500. He remains in the Boone County Jail as of Thursday afternoon.
