Missouri Murder Capital of U.S.
A new study released this week names Missouri as the murder capital of America for African Americans.The study from the Violence Policy Center, national educational organization working to stop gun death and injury, used FBI data from 2010, which is the most recent year available.In Missouri, the murder rate among black residents was 33.86 per 100,000 residents. That is more than seven times the national average of 4.42 per 100,000 residents.According to the VPC, 83 percent of victims nationally were shot and killed with firearms. In Missouri, the rate increased to 91 percent.Behind Missouri, the state’s with the highest black murders are Pennsylvania, Michigan, Nebraska and Oklahoma.
