Fire Damages Oscar’s Diner

***UPDATE 5 P.M.***Jefferson City fire officials believe the fire that damaged Oscar’s Diner overnight was accidental and started in the kitchen. The owner of the restaurant thinks it was an electrical problem, but fire crews are waiting to find out exactly where it started before coming to the same conclusion.Firefighters say the fire caused about $150,000 in damage. More of the fire was contained to the kitchen, but other parts of the building were damaged mostly from smoke.Investigators tell ABC 17 News that it could have been a completely different story.”They had a burglar alarm system but it didn’t have any type of fire alarm system to it,” said Jason Turner of the Jefferson City Fire Department. “Something like that could have been detected early, potentially because this fire started about two hours before.”The diner’s owner says the building is fully insured and plans to reopen, however that could take months.***ORIGINAL STORY***A two-alarm fire damaged Oscar’s Classic Diner in Jefferson City early Thursday morning, and the cause is now under investigation.Firefighters were called to the fire at around 12:45 a.m. and found heavy smoke coming from the building. They got the fire under control within 20 minutes.Most of the damage is in the kitchen area. Oscar’s will stay closed for the time being. No one was inside at the time and no one was hurt.
