MU announces major gift

Cottrell and Kay Fox donated over $5 million to MU’s College of Veterinary Medicine Monday.

The Fox’s gift supports a companion animal program called “perpetual pet care,” which provides comfortable homes to pets whose owners can no longer take care of them or have passed away.

Donations will also fund studies in comparative oncology on campus. The research helps develop therapies and cures for people and animals with cancer.

“It gives us a great deal of pleasure to be able to give this gift to the university and College of Veterinary Medicine… Our pets and our family have received great care and benefited a great deal from the important research being done at the university,” Cottrell Fox said.

The Fox’s dog and Kay Fox’s father both received treatment from the same drug to treat their bone cancer.

Carolyn Henry, an MU Professor of Veterinary Oncology, and Neil Olson, Dean of MU College of Veterinary Medicine, both agree this is a perfect example of comparative oncology.

Both human and animals are able to benefit from similar cancer drugs that were developed on MU’s campus.
