COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia City Council approved the creation of a new lot on Columbia Mall property to construct a new hotel.

The 7-0 vote allowed the mall to split off a section of its parking lot along Bernadette Drive for a new Hilton-branded hotel. Mall manager Rusty Strodtman told ABC 17 News he expects the hotel to finish construction in 2020.

The mall will lose some parking spots in the construction, but the development will include pedestrian crosswalks from the hotel to the mall's lot.

Strodtman said he expected the hotel to be four stories and have more than 100 rooms.
