Columbia halts ice skating, fishing
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Columbia Parks and Recreation has put an abrupt halt to ice skating and ice fishing in two city parks.
The city opened up ice skating at Stephens Lake Park on Tuesday and ice fishing at Cosmo-Bethel Park last Friday. A bitter cold spell led to ice on top of the lakes reaching 4 inches deep, the minimal level at which the city allows ice skating and fishing.
The city said in a news release Thursday that snow that fell Wednesday created an insulating layer, causing slushiness and decreasing the ice depth. Signs have been posted at both lakes, the city said.
