Lettered highways and residential streets still covered in snow as winter weather continues

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Around Mid-Missouri, residential streets and lettered highways were still covered in snow as winter weather continues to move through the area.

In Jefferson City and Columbia, main roadways have been cleared of ice and snow.

Road crews in Columbia were out on the streets early Tuesday morning. Stadium Boulevard and some residential streets were still partially covered.

Jefferson City crews had also scraped up snow but parking lots and sidewalks were coated in snow.

The public works directors in Cole County and Jefferson told ABC 17 the fully staffed crews came in at 4 a.m. to take over for the overnight relief crews. Britt Smith, Jefferson City Public Works Director, said all roads will be cleared off for the morning commute.

The MoDOT Traveler Information Map showed many highways around Mid-Missouri were covered or partially covered on Tuesday. Many lettered highways were still dealing with snow cover. MoDOT said portions of Highway 63 and Interstate 70 around Columbia were clear.

The ABC 17 Stormtrack Team called a Weather Alert Day for Tuesday ahead of another shot of winter weather.

Dozens of schools around the area called off class because of the wintry conditions.
