INSIDER BLOG: Tracking more wintry precipitation today
There's no rest for the weary in this type of pattern. With broad zonal (flat) flow entrenched, this might be a theme for this week: light, but daily disturbances. Our next system is rippling through today.
As cold as roads are, slippery conditions could develop quickly throughout the day, especially where some of the heavier bands of snow or freezing drizzle set up.
Hour by Hour
Light freezing drizzle has made travel conditions very poor near Kansas City and the Springfield areas, with light flurries coming down elsewhere. Snow showers will pick up into late afternoon, adding about a dusting to half an inch for areas along and north of I-70. For points south, a light glaze to 0.1" of ice will be possible with more freezing drizzle expected to fill in through late tonight. Precipitation should come to an end by midnight, but slick roads will be possible into Tuesday morning as temperatures remain in the low teens.
Amounts
Most of us look to stay under an inch with this latest round, with a better shot to get all the way to one inch up north.
Rest of the week
Another shot of Arctic air looks possible later this week. Lows could approach zero overnight with negative wind chill values.
