MU Health prepares Faurot Field site ahead of coronavirus vaccination clinic
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
University of Missouri Health Care prepared Faurot Field ahead of a public clinic that starts Thursday.
MU Health officials offered a tour of the facility to reporters Wednesday afternoon.
On Thursday, the health care system will begin administering 4,000 doses of vaccine to the general public, as long as they meet the requirements to be vaccinated. That includes people with certain underlying health conditions and those older than 65.
MU Health leaders said this week that the health system will receive some of the reallocated doses originally intended for long-term care facilities within the state. The state also said this week it would change its formula for allocating doses, giving select hospitals the majority of the state's approximately 76,000 weekly shots. MU Health is one of those hospital groups.
The slow pace of vaccination prompted the change to the shot distribution formula and the reallocation of shots left over after nursing home clinics. The state's coronavirus dashboard shows 7% of Missourians had received at least one dose of the two-dose vaccine as of Tuesday. The state says 2.1% have received two shots.
As of Wednesday, 49,465 doses of the coronavirus shot in Mid-Missouri have been administered, which includes first and second doses. The current breakdown by county follows.

Boone County has by far had the most doses given within the area at 23,432 doses of the coronavirus vaccine. Just over 9% of the county population has received their first doses, which equates to 16,501 doses. Just under 7,000 people have received their second dose of the vaccine.
Just over 550,000 total first and second doses have been given out.
MU Health will hold appointments from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday and Saturday this week, according to a release. Originally the event was schedule to take place Thursday through Saturday but now MU Health will be giving 2,000 shots on Thursday and 2,000 on Saturday. Appointment invitations are being sent out to people who filled out MU Health's vaccine survey and meet current eligibility requirements to receive the shot.
MU Health expects to host appointments again the week of Feb. 15, when it gets another large allocation of shots from the state.
