COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Boone County Sheriff's Department and later Missouri State Highway Patrol helped with the investigation after a man is accused of shooting a shotgun in the basement multiple times with kids in the residence.
According to a probable cause statement, Brendan Leonard allegedly fired a shotgun into the wall in a basement nine to 12 times causing $1,000 in damage.
Court documents state that an argument over the volume of a television escalated to the point that Leonard left and then came back into the residence with a bulletproof vest on and then allegedly fired the shotgun.
Leonard had been staying in the residence since October.
The caller told police that two children were upstairs when the shooting. Another child got outside and texted a parent from a secure location.
Leonard left before Boone County Sheriff's Department arrived.
Missouri State Highway Patrol later found Leonard in Hallsville by the vehicle.
The trooper noticed that Leonard smelled strongly of alcohol. Officials say Leonard failed the field sobriety tests. A breath sample indicated Leonard's BAC was .142%.
Leonard's bond was denied by the court.
Leonard is charged with DWI, armed criminal action, 1st-degree property damage, and two counts of 1st-degree endangering the welfare of a child.
Leonard's next court day is Wednesday and then on Feb. 10.
