FULTON, Mo. (KMIZ)

Fulton firefighters say an elderly man is dead after a fire broke out at an apartment building early Monday morning.

A release from the fire department said James Morrison, 68, has died. The Callaway County Medical Examiner's Office said Morrison was pronounced dead at Fulton Medical Center at 3:14 a.m. on Monday.

Firefighters said on Monday he received life-threatening injuries at the apartment in the 800 block of Green Street.

The release said the fire is still under investigation but it's not suspicious.

No others were hurt in the blaze. The fire department said the American Red Cross was called in to assist a resident living in an adjoining apartment.
