Woman arrested after barricading herself inside of home on Carol Drive

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Columbia Police Department responded to Carol Drive around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Jeff Pitts, Community Relations Specialist/Public Information Officer for the Columbia Police Department stated, "On Saturday at approximately 5:30 officers responded to the 2900 block of Paris Road, in regards to a shots fired call. Officers arrived and through the investigation learned one shot was fired, however there were no injuries."

Police investigated the scene and found evidence of one shot fired in the parking lot of American Freight Furniture and Mattress at 2900 Paris Road. Police reported there were no injuries or property damage from the gunshot.

 The suspect, Paris M.Owens, 33, of Columbia, fled the scene and barricaded herself inside of a home located in the 2100 block of Carol Drive. 

Police say she refused to cooperate with officers. The Columbia Police SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Team were requested to assist patrol officers, as the suspect was considered armed and dangerous.

Officers taped off the street.

ABC 17 News crews saw an ambulance at the scene as well at least 15 patrol vehicles.

Owens turned herself in and was taken into custody by police around 7 p.m.

Owens was arrested for 1st degree assault, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a weapon. Owens will be remanded to the custody of the Boone County Jail.

Lt. Gooch said the victim of the domestic assault is safe and unharmed.
