Blighted Capitol Avenue buildings reopen to potential developers
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)
The Jefferson City Housing Authority opened several properties on Capitol Avenue, and one on Jackson Street, to developers in hopes of refurbishing the crumbling buildings.
Staff will be leading open house inspections of 500, 501, 507, 511, and 513 E. Capitol Ave. and 101 Jackson St. on Thursday.
The buildings will be open for inspection by potential redevelopers as follow:
- 101 Jackson: 9 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. Thursday
- 501, 507, 513 East Capitol: 10 a.m. to noon Thursday open house and by appointment only from noon to 2 p.m. for developers to inspect restricted areas
- 500 E. Capitol “Ivy Terrace”: Noon to 2 p.m. Thursday by appointment only for developers to inspect restricted areas.
- 511 E. Capitol has been determined to be structurally unsound and will not be open for inspection
The authority said visitors should wear masks during the inspections to protect against the mold, asbestos and peeling paint in many of the aging structures.
The properties were obtained by the housing authority after a court battle with the former property owner, Barbara Buescher.
