Street racing leads to charges after wreck Tuesday night in Columbia

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

One person was arrested after a wreck Tuesday night sends one person to the hospital with minor injuries.

A Boone County Sheriff's deputy reports watching two vehicles racing at a high rate of speed on Providence going north just before 10 p.m.

According to the deputy, one of the vehicles left the roadway and crashed into a building.

According to court documents, the passenger was taken to University Hospital by EMS with minor injuries and the driver was identified as Scott Beasley.

The deputy reported smelling intoxicants inside the vehicle as Beasley was having a conversation with MUPD.

While conversing with Beasley, the deputy asked and was granted the ability to administer a field sobriety test according to court documents.

After giving the test to Beasley, the deputy placed him in handcuffs and put him into the patrol vehicle.

After being placed in the vehicle, the deputy reports Beasley became agitated by yelling from the back seat, banging his head against a window causing him to be restrained on the ground.

Court documents state that Beasley was then taken to a hospital and given a sedative to calm him down.

The passenger told the deputy that Beasley may have been driving around 90 MPH before the wreck.

Beasley is charged with DWI, resisting arrest, property damage, operating a vehicle on a highway without a valid license and operating a vehicle in a careless manner involving an accident.

Beasley has a $50,000 cash/surety bond set.
