Police seeking at least two people after south Columbia shooting

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

Police are looking for two or more possible shooters after they found evidence of gunfire in south Columbia on Wednesday.

Officers were called to Bethel Church Road shortly before 5:30 a.m. At 5:41, Boone County Joint Communications sent out an alert that the street was closed between Old Plank Road and Nikki Way.

Police at the scene told ABC 17 News crews they found bullet fragments and shell casings in the area. There were no reports of injuries.

Police later said in a release that a man told police he saw people rummaging through his vehicle at about 5 a.m. and confronted them. The people who had been going through the vehicle got into a gray or silver SUV and drove away while firing shots, the Columbia Police Department said.

Police found damage on the victim's vehicle and spent casings, according to the release.

According to police, the victim said up to four people were involved but could only describe two of them -- a thin man about 5 feet, 9 inches tall wearing blue jeans, a red shirt, white shoes and a mask; and a man with blue jeans, a red-and-white striped shirt and white shoes.

Police cleared the scene shortly after 6 a.m.
