Columbia crews continue treating roads
COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)
Crews with the City of Columbia reported in at 7 a.m. to continue to respond to winter weather.
The crew is replacing those who worked the night shift.
A 23-person crew is focusing on first, second and third priority routes.
Even though limited accumulation is in the forecast, crews are expecting slickness.
Boone County is under a dense fog advisory until noon Sunday. The public is asked to keep a safe distance between their vehicle and others while driving, and to drive with caution as roads are slick from precipitation.
The City of Columbia Public Works sent out an additional crew Saturday evening at 7 p.m. to monitor road conditions overnight. Ashlyn Sherman with Columbia Public Works said a 22 person crew was sent out this evening.
Road crews will monitor slick road conditions and are expecting mild weather conditions. Sherman said, “Forecast does show a band of snow to our west it appears that dry air raw bit of moisture, so limited precipitation’s kind of expected through the evening with very little chance overnight so right now they’re just monitoring conditions with some possible refreeze over the night.”
Sherman said the city advises people to drive with precaution and take it slow.
“I think in any winter weather event we always recommend people to stay home if they’re able to if they do have to be out and about we always recommend just giving yourself extra time, going slow," she said. "If you see a plow on the road make sure to leave it, give it room, if you have your windshield wipers on turn your headlights on. Just in general drive with winter weather caution if you do have to be out," said Sherman.
