MoDOT monitors road conditions as more wintry weather could set in

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

The MoDOT travelers map shows a few counties in Missouri experiencing covered roads Wednesday morning.

According to MoDOT, Sullivan county, and Putnam county are reporting covered roads over most of the area.

Some counties are seeing partly covered roads, including Macon, Gentry, Buchanan, Knox, and Clark.Audrain, Randolph, Monroe, and Marion Counties are seeing mostly clear roads Wednesday morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol Troop F is reminding people to take precautions when ice is on the roads.

MSHP said on Twitter people should take time to clean off their windshield before driving, make sure there is a good distance between you and the car in front of you, and watch roads when traveling on bridges.

Ashlyn Sherman, the Marketing Specialist for Columbia Public Works, said they are monitoring forecasts for types of precipitation and the timing for winter weather overnight Thursday.

"Depending on that information, we may utilize a combination of beet juice brine, pre-wetted salt and brine solution, salt or a combination of the treatments," she said.
