JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMIZ)

Jefferson City police said Monday that hypothermia killed a man found dead on a road on Christmas Eve.

William Johnson, 41, was found dead early Thursday in the 600 block of Commercial Way, police said. He was unresponsive when officers got to the scene.

The Jefferson City Police Department received autopsy results Monday afternoon indicating the cold caused Johnson's death, according to a news release. Strong winds combined with plunging temperatures that night to create brutal wind chills.

Johnson's death was an accident, police said.
