Some travelers impacted in Mid-Missouri closing out Thanksgiving weekend

COLUMBIA, Mo. (KMIZ)

As Thanksgiving weekend closes out, some Mid-Missouri travelers will be impacted on the road and in the air.

On the Columbia Regional Airports website when checked at 4:30 p.m., three departing flights were delayed on Sunday. Four flights were delayed coming into COU, including one flight from Denver which was delayed an entire day.

Leaders at COU said earlier this week they expect the normal increase of passengers for the holiday season. The airport urged travelers to come early, keep track of the weather and stay in touch with your airline.

Across the country, about 5,000 flights were delayed on Sunday when checked at 4:30 p.m., according to FlightAware.com. About 750 flights were canceled in the United States on Sunday.

Wind and storms can also cause headaches and wrecks for drivers as well. The Missouri State Highway Patrol suggested earlier this week for drivers to slow down in order to keep control of your car.

On the road, Sunday marks the last day of the Missouri State Highway Patrol's Holiday County Period, which started Wednesday at 6 p.m.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrols crash reports at 5 p.m., Troop F has responded to 9 crashes in Mid Missouri during the counting period. None of those crashes were fatal.

Across the state, MSHP has worked 7 fatal crashes during the counting period, resulting in 8 deaths.
